Other Individual Archives

Donated in 1978 by Marina and Giovanna Valeri, the collection includes manuscripts, publications, newspaper cuttings, photographs, and autographed books by the poet, writer and university professor Diego Valeri (1887-1976), as well as a collection of letters with about 400 correspondents. The correspondence has been catalogued as part of a project in collaboration with the Civic Library of Piove di Sacco, Valeri's birthplace, which together with the University of Padua holds other important bibliographic and archival sections of the overall legacy, now all also catalogued. The correspondence held by the Fondazione Cini highlights Diego Valeri's close relationships with lively European culture circles in the second post-war period (writers such as Blanchard, Brion, Duhamel, Hesse and Szabò). Moreover, Valeri's networking was greatly facilitated by his knowledge of foreign languages and enabled him to successfully graft various European influences onto the Venetian tradition.
