The collection contains the archive of the composer Alfredo Casella (Turin, 25 July 1883 - Rome, 5 March 1947). The body of documents has been arranged into seven series: correspondence, writings, musical manuscripts, concert programmes, reviews and critical writings, photographs and various documents. The original core of the correspondence consists of letters addressed to Alfredo Casella and to his wife Yvonne Muller (about 3000 letters, telegrams and postcards), along with numerous photocopies of letters sent by the composer. The writings include manuscript and printed texts, along with various notes and working papers; this section is completed by a collection of autographs by other authors which were already in the composer's possession. The musical section includes sketchbooks, drafts and manuscript scores of Casella's works, copies of manuscripts reworked or revised by him (Scarlatti, Vivaldi, etc.) and an important collection of autographs by other composers. Casella's activity as pianist, conductor, teacher and organiser between 1894 and 1947 is well documented in the section of concert programmes, which also includes materials collected between the death of the composer and 1989.
