The collection contains the archive of the composer Fausto Romitelli (Gorizia, 1 February 1963 - Milan, 27 June 2004). The largest section is that of musical manuscripts, made up of about 2000 papers that widely document the complexity of the compositional process, from preparatory sketches of a work to its final draft, through the various stages of defining and revising the musical text. The documentation covers the entire arc of Romitelli's production, from the early 1980s to the last works and the projects under way. The period of his education at the Milan Conservatory and his participation in the summer courses at the Accademia Chigiana are represented by a considerable number of unpublished compositions, which trace Romitelli's process of defining his writing and anticipate some distinctive features of his mature style. The research carried out on the Paris period is widely documented in the working papers from the 1990s, particularly dense in information, which are accompanied by other study materials (articles, lecture notes, photocopies) that show the author's growing interest in the physics of sound and acoustic phenomena. Commissions and concert preparations are recorded by a hundred-odd letters and faxes, mainly dating from the second half of the 1990s. Precious indications on performance and interpretive aspects of some key works like Trash TV Trance (2003) and the trilogy Professor Bad Trip (1998-2000) are found in scattered notes and drafts of letters. The collection of brochures and concert programmes, from which a considerable segment on his European concerts between the 1990s and 2000 emerges, is a very interesting, especially regarding the specific sphere of contemporary creation. More than 100 sound recordings on cassettes and CDs provide a precise reference to Romitelli's listening, as well as documenting important performances of his works. The collection also includes the composer's personal computer and files generated with PatchWork software. The archive is currently being re-ordered and catalogued.
