state i/ii: inscription cut in darkest block: “MATVRIN/ IOS. NIC/ VICENT”
state ii/ii: first state inscriptions removed; plug added in the darkest block with publisher's address “MATVRIN/INVENT/ 16 AA 08/ In Mantoua”; lightest tone black replaced (or recut)

The composition relates to a fresco by Maturino in the Villa Lante (now in the Palazzo Zuccari).
