Chiaroscuro woodcut from five blocks (possibly unfinished?)

Ugo's seemingly unfinished Archimedes is generally considered to be after Parmigianino. The authorship of the design was questioned by Johnson, who suggested a Raphaelesque influence. Johnson, ‘Ugo da Carpi's Chiaroscuro Woodcuts', 72–76. Although Johnson considers this to be Ugo's last chiaroscuro woodcut, it may date to his years in Rome. One of two known impressions in the Albertina (DG2002/524) is printed on paper with a Crossbow in Circle Surmounted by a Star watermark. This same watermark is found on examples of Ugo's two prints dated 1518: Aeneas and Anchises (Amsterdam, Rijksmuseum 31.054) and Death of Ananias (without the inscription in the step; London, British Museum, 1852,0612.1).
